ARE ALL SUPPLEMENTS THE SAME?

As an orthomolecular therapist, I’m trained to provide advice on supplements in addition to nutrition and lifestyle recommendations. You can also find extensive details about supplements on my website’s Supplement page. It’s essential not to choose a brand of supplements randomly.

Not all supplements are good for your body. Select products that genuinely support your health. Most multivitamins and single vitamins are NOT ideal, especially the cheaper ones from some drugstores or discount stores.

For example, some brands are filled with fillers and oxides that your body can’t utilize. Your body may see these as “enemies” and extra work, needing to break them down and eliminate them, burdening your liver, which we actually want to support and detoxify.

Poor Absorption

Many cheap supplements contain non-active forms of vitamins and minerals. Since many people have issues converting these into bioavailable forms, your body barely absorbs these low-quality supplements.

“IT’S A WASTE BECAUSE YOUR HEALTH IS PRICELESS. YOUR BODY IS YOUR TEMPLE!”

High-quality supplements from top brands are formulated for better absorption. Minerals, for example, are better absorbed when they are chelated. The likelihood of adverse effects is smaller since your body can use them efficiently without accumulating them.

But how do you know if you’re taking the right forms? Here are a few tips to help you out! Grab your supplement bottles and read along! Make it a fun learning session for yourself 😉

Vitamin Forms to Look Out For:

Vitamin B6 can accumulate in the body, causing tingling in hands and feet. This is often due to the form Pyridoxine HCI. Always choose the form Pyridoxal 5 Phosphate (P5P), which your body can utilize without circulating excessively.

❌ Pyridoxine
✅ Pyridoxal 5 Phosphate (P5P)

Vitamin B11 (Folic Acid/Folate) is commonly used for fatigue and pregnancy support. However, folic acid is the synthetic form. Prefer the active folate forms (5-MTHF or Quatrefolic) to properly support your body.

Vitamin B12 is difficult for everyone to absorb as issues often arise in the digestive tract. We also use a lot of B12 daily for processing stimuli. Always opt for a sublingual tablet or a high-quality multivitamin containing the right forms of B12:

❌ Cyanocobalamin
✅ Methylcobalamin
✅ Adenosylcobalamin

When taking Vitamin B12, always ensure it includes folate for proper absorption and synergy.

Magnesium is the first mineral depleted by stress and is vital for over 2000 bodily functions. Many people take the wrong form, such as magnesium oxide. Choose the right form based on your needs:

❌ Magnesium Oxide (excreted quickly and not bound to a mineral)
✅ Magnesium Citrate (muscle relaxation and more energy)
✅ Magnesium Taurate (great for sleep, calm, headaches/migraines, and PMS – my favorite!)
✅ Magnesium Malate (energy and conditions like fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome)
✅ Magnesium Bisglycinate (focus and mental calm)

Your health is invaluable, and taking the right supplements can make all the difference. 🌱✨
